There’s always room for one more. Perpendicular Recording and Data Storage
January 5, 2007 by Toby Getsch
When traveling on a basketball team in Central America, we often had to pack into a van or car, and would wonder how we were all going to fit. It was a basketball team, and we did have long legs. They had a saying there. “There’s always room for one more.” And, somehow, each time it worked out that way, and we all fit in.
Data storage on various devices is at a point where more storage is needed, and more space is not around. Getting creative to solve this problem has happened. “They” figured out how to store data differently, to allow more room on the storage device. Blah, blah, blah…
Here is a nice video about Perpendicular Recording, from Hitachi. It’s kinda fun, in a geeky sort of way. I think it helps put visuals to learning, and helps get the point across, much better than the words I’ve used here. Enjoy, and get down!
You’ll see what I mean, when you watch the video. And, because I think it’s fun, this will also serve as my Casual Friday post for this week. Cheers!
