computer fast
April 17, 2006 by Toby Getsch
Along with the recent stress fast, it seems to me that it would also be a decent time for a computer fast. I recently needed to get a new pc. I did that over this past weekend. It was driven by needing to get taxes done, otherwise I probably would have gone a few more days of being off the computer.
Now, for me, a computer fast means that I’m not sitting in front of the computer. I still can get an abbreviated version of my email on my phone, and with that can still access the Internet to check the weather and basic news, etc. That is still quite a “fast” for me. Normally, I’ve been reading approx. 180 blogs and doing emails and literally sitting in front of a computer for many hours each day. Having had a laptop rather consistently for the past few years has made that much easier, and much more convenient. At least that way I’m not in the same specific location, sitting in the same exact room, etc. I often have been sitting wherever is most comfortable and wherever lets me think clearly. That would often be on the deck of my apartment, at a coffee shop, in a Lazy Boy recliner, or wherever…
On my new computer now, I’m sitting back at a desk, in an office (second bedroom of my apartment), and stationary… once again. I think it will help me get a much better grip on separating different online and offline activities and enjoying more of nature. I’m not a gamer and don’t do any of the virtual world simulator things. I’m not talking about that deep of an online/offline thing. I’m just going to to lots more listening - lots more hiking and traveling and enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.
So, if blog posts and email responses are less frequent, see above!

P.S. If you want more info, there is a contact me link and a text me link that are currently on the right side with this blog’s formatting. The text me link has been acting up recently. But, if you’ve got a cell phone, you can figure out how to reach me. It’s not like I’m hiding. (See Google: Toby Getsch)
Update: Trying the “location” feature. It’s supposed to link to Google Maps. Cool, if it works.
(Update2: See Live: Toby Getsch - I’m starting to like Live’s results more and more. They’re getting better. Excuse the self indulgence with my own name search, however, the results are different it’s easy to scroll through with Live because they do not paginate, like Google and others do.)
